Local 191's first Charter
was written in 1881 when it became part of the International
Typographical Union (ITU). It is the oldest Local still operating
in Winnipeg.
In
the 1980s, the Local became part of the Communications
Workers of America (CWA). Though
it retained its Local 191 name, it also maintained its title
of "Media Union of Manitoba."
In
the 1990s, the Local joined the Canadian union -- Communications,
Energy and Paperworkers
Union (CEP). Likewise
during this decade the Local expanded to include a shop in
northwest Ontario.
Local 191 has a long and varied
history, which has reflected, in many instances, the times
-- the events, the tides of technology, and the ongoing struggles
of working people.

more about CEP's history.
