LOCAL 191 HONOURS UNION MEMBER
CEP Local 191 honoured Free Press district manager Grant Crouch on Sept. 27, 2011, for his quick thinking actions that saved the life f a fellow union brother.
In the cold, wee hours of May 14, 2011, Brother Grouch starting receiving customer complaints for non-delivery on a newspaper route serviced by union brother Raymond Desrochiers. Brother Crouch drove out to the route but couldn’t find Raymond. Instead of returning to the depot, Crouch started walking the area in search of the missing carrier and located him, beaten and hypothermic on the steps of a vacant house. His actions that morning, and his call to emergency responders, certainly saved Brother Raymond’s life.
For acting above and beyond the call of duty, Grant, the members of CEP Local 191 say Thank You for a job well done.

2011 LOCAL SCHOLARSHIP WINNERS
The CEP 191 executive board endorsed the Scholarship Committee’s recommendation for the three winners of this year’s CEP Local 191 Scholarships. They are (from left to right) Donna Garofalo, Erica Symchyshyn and Ryan Quilty. Each winner will receive $1,250.00 towards their expenses for full time enrolment in post-secondary education.
Applicants were asked to write a 500-word essay on the impact of back-to-work legislation on collective bargaining rights. The CEP 191 Scholarships were instituted five years ago, in honour of CEP Local 191’s 125th anniversary.
CEP GOLF TOURNAMENT - September 11, 2011
The 9th Annual CEP Spina Bifida Golf Tournament was another successful fund raiser, with $7100 being donated to the charity on behalf of Manitoba CEP locals. Local 191 registered two teams this year, one with members from LGM Graphics and a second team from the Free Press press room. Congratulations to the organizers for another job well done.
